Getting Started in Barn Hunt

As more novice dog handlers explore the growing sport of Barn Hunt and sign up for introductory classes, it became important for the client to seek additional support for novice handlers. This course was designed as an introduction to the sport for customers to take prior to coming to their first in-person class, allowing for more time to be spent learning to handle the dogs, minimizing barriers to the sport and increasing the capacity for business growth.

Finding and Hiring the Right Technical Team

The client needed to hire 2000 new members of their technical team but struggled to find appropriate candidates for their positions. They identified that the interview and hiring process was one reason that the company had struggled to fill vacant roles. During exit interviews for candidates who took other positions, the lack of professionalism in the interview process was cited as a concern. In addition, hiring managers reported that poor cultural fit or poor technical skill of new hires was responsible for the short staffing longevity currently reported. This training supported interviewers and hiring managers in developing a standardized interview process that identified quality candidates to fill technical roles and supported positive business practices for the client.

Sample eLearning Interactions

Take a Break! Random Idea Generator

This Articulate Storyline 360 interaction uses a spinning wheel animation, random number variables, and branching to suggest a break option in the workday.

There is an illustrated image of a woman wearing a yellow sweater and white pants sitting comfortably on the floor in front of a laptop. The background is blurry. At the top, the title of the interaction is listed, "Time for a Break!"

360-degree photo interaction

This interaction, created in Articulate Storyline 360, allows the learner to enter a place and explore in all directions using markers, embedded video, and guided direction. In this sample, an urban naturalist program points out important wildlife habitats in an urban park.

Brain Teaser Fun

This Articulate Storyline 360 project uses multiple question banks, text and number variables, and a results slide to create a fun brain teaser activity.

A pink cartoon brain with teal glasses, tennis shoes, and weights lifted over its head is sweating. At the top of the screen, the title, "Brain Teaser Puzzles," is listed. On the top left corner is a light bulb with a question mark in it and surrounded by question marks. There is a start button at the bottom right of the screen.

Custom Glossary

Created in Articulate Storyline 360, this simple glossary enables learners to search for key terms about dog behavior using text variables and layers. Created a for a private dog park as part of required training prior to visiting the park, the glossary helps learners understand dog behavior and use the same vocabulary as other park goers.

The image shows the cover page of an interactive glossary. There is a text box and a search button to type in words on the middle left of the screen and a word bank on the right. There is a small black icon of a dog in the lower left corner. The title at the top reads, "Interactive Glossary."

Drag and Drop

Drag and drop interactions can be fun and illuminating for the learner. In this example, taken from a larger course on conflict resolution and open communication, the learner explores how to frame their thinking using an actual frame.

Accordion

An accordion is another simple interaction that can organize and convey related information in both Articulate Rise and Storyline. In this interaction, created in Storyline 360, the learner explores the benefits of open communication in the workplace.

This is a screen shot of an accordion interaction. There are four tabs along the left side of the screen labeled, "Clarity," "Positive Environment," "Problem Solving," and "Growth." The title at the top of the screen is, "Why Difficult Conversations Matter." The image that takes up most of the screen is a work table with three adults seated around it. One of them has a laptop, one has a clipboard, and one can be seen holding a pen.

Slider

Dial and slider features in Articulate Storyline 360 allow learners to progress through information in a way that scaffolds connections about the flow or progression of information. This slider was part of a course about communication and outlines the steps to take in approaching difficult conversations.

This is a screen shot depicting a slider interaction from a Storyline Course. Along the top is the title, "5 Step Approach to Difficult Conversations." Along the left side of the screen is an image with five circles, showing arrows going from the top circle to the bottom circle. The top circle is labeled, "1: Prepare." The second circle is labeled, "2: Clarify," the third, "3: Common Goal," the fourth, "4: Make a Plan," and the fifth, "5: Reflect." There is a vertical slider between the image and the text on the screen. The screen text reads, "Directions. Drag the conversation icon along the slider to explore the five steps to successfully navigating difficult conversations."

Interactive Flow Chart

It is all too easy for learners to glance at a flow chart and say, "Yep, got it," without really digging in. An interactive flow chart engages learners in understanding the importance of the steps, increasing retention. This one, created in Canva and Articulate Storyline 360, walks learners through the steps to helping a customer choose a travel location using extensive branching.
